TV4, C More and Åsa Lantz develop series about King Carl XVI Gustaf and his upbringing

TV4, C More and production company Filmlance are developing a series about Carl XVI Gustaf, his upbringing and his journey from heir to the throne to his life as the monarch. The drama series is being written by author Åsa Lantz (Det mest förbjudna, Selma).

TV4 and C More’s new project draws inspiration from material never previously used in a drama series, with its starting point in the childhood of Carl XVI Gustaf. The series is under development, but Åsa Lantz have researched the material for several years.

- Other kings and queens are said to have had an impact on world events. The history of our King is something different. Not as highlighted internationally but at least as dramatic and fascinating. And for many of us, completely unknown, says Åsa.

The series is the latest effort in C More and TV4’s ambition to become the leading nordic platform for entertainment in all forms and genres.

- At the core of everything we do, we want to tell stories that touches the audience. Everyone in Sweden have a relationship to the monarchy and its history regardless of your opinion on it. The opportunity to add new experiences and dimensions to the tale of our king is a prestigious project to us. Åsa and Filmance are among the best suited to do the material justice, says Josefine Tengblad, head of Drama at TV4 and C More.

The series is intended to be structured as six 45 minute episodes for a number of seasons.

- We’re thrilled to be a part of a project focused on our king, monarchy and Sweden as a whole. It’s our goal to create an engaging and modern drama of the highest quality for the broader audience, says Hanne Palmquist, CEO, Filmlance.
