C More and TV4 are developing the political thriller series Eight Months (Åtta månader), based on the acclaimed suspense novel of the same name by Magnus Montelius.

Award-winning Jens Jonsson is on board as director of the project, with Erik Ahrnbom writing the script.

The book Åtta månader (Eight Months), written by Magnus Montelius, was published in 2019 by Albert Bonniers Förlag and was quickly praised by critics. It was ranked in second place in December among the best detective novels of 2019 by newspaper Dagens Nyheter’s literature critic Lotta Olsson, and was recently voted the best foreign suspense novel by Det Danske Kriminal Akademi.

C More and TV4 now have plans to make a TV series based on the acclaimed book, and have entered into development with production company Anagram Sweden. This was announced at the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision conference.

Eight Months has everything we love in a strong thriller: gripping characters who you are thrown between completely trusting and suddenly disbelieving, high tension, great secrets and an insight into a world we don’t usually have access to. The book was a page turner and we have high hopes that the series can be just as thrilling with Jens Jonsson and Erik Ahrnbom on board,” says Elin Kvist, Head of Development at C More and TV4.

Eight Months is about journalist Nina Wedén, who reveals Sweden’s foreign minister as a sex buyer. When a new foreign minister – Jacob Weiss – takes office, he appoints Nina as his press secretary. Both rumours and dubious employees circulate around Weiss, and Nina is forced to question who is actually in control of the corridors of power.

At the same time, political advisor Max Boije starts investigating Weiss’s past and discovers a gap of eight months. When one of his sources is found murdered in Riddarfjärden, Max begins to suspect that he has gotten too close to a secret that someone is ready to kill to protect.

The series is written by Erik Ahrnbom, who has previously worked with The Bridge, Stockholm Stories and Arne Dahl. The director is Jens Jonsson, who previously directed the critically acclaimed Fartblinda (Blinded) and the TV series Jägarna (The Hunters), and whose films have been internationally praised.

Åtta månader is in development at C More and TV4, and is produced by Martin Persson for Anagram Sweden. There is no decision yet on when production will begin, so no premiere is yet scheduled.
