TV4 Media acquires exclusive rights to the FIFA World Cup 2026

The world’s most prestigious football championship will continue to be broadcast on TV4 for yet another cycle.
Earlier this fall, the rights to the European Football Championships 2024 and 2028 were secured and now TV4 is proud to announce that it will show the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“Football championships have the unique ability to bring together huge audiences. We’re very proud to now be able to show all of the most important men's football championships on our services until 2028”, says Casten Almqvist, CEO of TV4 Media.
Sweden’s bronze medal in the 1994 FIFA World Cup has an important place in Swedish hearts. The men's national team's efforts during the FIFA World Cup 2018 once again brought viewers together in front of their screens. The FIFA World Cup has been strongly associated with TV4 for the past 20 years and will continue to be so. TV4 has, together with SVT, now secured the rights to the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“Major football championships have been part of TV4’s DNA since the FIFA World Cup 1998. It’s fantastic to be able to offer as many as five major football championships over the next eight years”, continues Casten Almqvist.
The FIFA World Cup is undoubtedly the largest and most widely viewed sporting event both in Sweden and around the world.
In addition to the men’s UEFA European Football Championship and the FIFA World Cup, TV4 and C More also show other national team football such as the UEFA Nations League, qualifying matches for the UEFA European Football Championship and the FIFA World Cup and other men’s and women’s international matches.
As well as national team football and starting in the fall of 2021, TV4 and C More will broadcast the world's most high-profile club tournament, the UEFA Champions League.
C More’s world-class club football portfolio includes Italy’s Serie A and LaLiga from Spain. TV4 and C More also own the rights to the Swedish Cup for women and men, the American soccer league, MLS, and the Portuguese Liga NOS.
TV4 Media has also secured the rights for MTV and C More to the FIFA World Cup 2026 for the territory of Finland, in a first-ever partnership with public broadcaster YLE.
