TV4 and C More to create TV series adaptation of Hans Rosenfeldt’s When Crying Wolf

TV4 and C More have purchased the rights to develop Hans Rosenfeldt’s latest crime fiction, When Crying Wolf, into a brand new TV drama series. After international success with The Bridge and Marcella, Rosenfeldt’s latest book series has him returning to Sweden and Haparanda for the story, with the policewoman Hannah Wester as the protagonist.
- I am thrilled for TV4 and C More to believe in When Crying Wolf to the extent of wanting to adapt it to a TV series. The story means a lot to me and I am truly excited to, in a creative collaboration, return to Haparanda, showcase Hannah Wester, Katja and the other characters from the book to a different platform and hopefully reach an even bigger audience on a global scale, says Hans Rosenfeldt.
When Crying Wolf takes place in Haparanda, Sweden, where policewoman Hannah Wester investigates a death that seems to be connected to a bloody drug deal in Finland. The first book in the planned series came out this fall and has now been approved for a drama series for TV4 and C More.
- Hans has a long track record of creating captivating stories for an international and Swedish audience. He is an amazing author, one of the best in the world in his field. We have had the pleasure of working with Hans before and it feels fantastic to be able to do it again with this exciting project, says Josefine Tengblad, Head of Drama, TV4 and C More.
Quality drama content is one of the cornerstones of the TV4 portfolio as the leading free TV station of Sweden and an important building block of C More within the ambition of becoming the leading Nordic platform for entertainment. A mixture of established brands such as Beck, Sunny side, Hamilton, Jägarna and The Sandhamn murders shares the platform with new strong titles such as Fartblinda och Top Dog. When Crying Wolf is an example of a new, strong title with potential to become an established brand.
- It is going to be an honor to work with Hans and his new series. It feels amazing to bring home his latest production to Sweden and the Nordic region after his international success the past few years. We want to collaborate with the best creators and, by virtue of acquiring the rights to the best material to TV4 and C More, speed up the process of transforming their stories into series, says Piodor Gustafsson, Director of Scripted Content, TV4 and C More.
When Crying Wolf has already received praise from critics and garnered commercial success as a physical book, e-book and audiobooks. The sequel is already announced for the fall of 2022.
- Hans Rosenfeldt is a storyteller in the purest form. He weaves intrigue at the highest international level. Scandinavian Crime has become an established term on the international scene and few would dispute that Hans Rosenfeldt’s books and TV series have played an integral part in establishing the genre, says Håkan Bravinger, Literary Director, Norstedts.
